YTL Cement is turning its seventy year legacy into real action with a bold pledge to plant 70000 trees across Kuala Lumpur, supporting DBKL’s mission to build a cleaner, greener and more liveable city. The move is part of the company’s Beyond 70 initiative and signals a fresh wave of climate focused efforts happening right now in Malaysia.
YTL Cement Steps Up as a Local Agenda 21 Strategic Partner
The pledge was announced during the KL Park Festival 2025 at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, where YTL Cement was also appointed a Strategic Partner of Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur (LA21KL). The event was attended by Kuala Lumpur Mayor Dato Seri TPr Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif alongside senior leaders from the Group.
With this new partnership, YTL Cement is now directly involved in shaping community based sustainability initiatives that align with KLs long term urban future.
Two Major Contributions for Malaysias Sustainability Journey
YTL Cement will support DBKLs environmental and social development through two key efforts:
🌱 1. Planting 70000 Trees Across KL
A massive push that supports the citys climate action plan, biodiversity protection and urban cooling efforts. More trees mean cleaner air, more shade and healthier community spaces for everyone.
🎓 2. Supporting Students in Sentul Through the Bintang Cemerlang Programme

A long term initiative by YTL Cement together with DBKL and UCSI University benefiting students from 22 schools in Sentul.
The programme includes:
- Academic coaching
- Teacher development
- Creative learning activities
- Exposure opportunities for underserved students
This is part of a bigger commitment to empower the next generation through education and community support.
A Collaboration That Reflects Malaysias Urban Future
Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur is all about public private community collaboration. YTL Cements appointment signals its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially:
- Goal 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Goal 13 Climate Action
- Goal 15 Life on Land
- Goal 17 Partnerships for the Goals
The partnership is built on the 4P principle: Public, Private, People, Partnership a model that encourages better community involvement and shared environmental responsibility.
Part of YTL Cements Long Standing BUILDS CSR Commitment
The tree donation and Bintang Cemerlang programme are driven by BUILDS, YTL Cements CSR arm. Both initiatives reflect the Groups long standing belief in nation building strengthening infrastructure while uplifting communities and protecting the environment for future generations.
As KL continues pushing toward a greener and more sustainable identity, efforts like these play a real role in shaping the city Malaysians will live in for decades to come.
