Kampung Sungai Kembong Hilir just got a major glow up and the community is already feeling the impact. As part of its ongoing CSR movement, WCTGives, WCT Holdings Berhad has kicked off its “Uniting Communities, Building the Nation” initiative in Kajang, breathing new life into the village’s long-abandoned balai raya.

This initiative reflects WCT’s community-first spirit and its mission to uplift Malaysians through accessible education, safe spaces, and social connection.

🌱 WCTGives Shows Up for Kajang

Focus keyphrase: WCTGives Malaysia community initiative

The balai raya once a central meeting point for Kampung Sungai Kembong Hilir had been closed since 2017 due to ageing structures and roof damage. After receiving basic restoration from the Hulu Langat District Office and local volunteers, WCT stepped in to complete the space and return it to the community.

Here’s what WCT funded and refurbished:

  • Upgraded adjoining toilet
  • Enhanced kitchen for classes and community cooking
  • Upgraded badminton court into a multipurpose court
  • New tables, chairs, and a refreshed activity area
  • A cosy reading corner with 300 books for local children

With these upgrades, the hall can now host tuition sessions, cooking classes, community meetings, recreational activities, and more giving 2,000 residents a safe and functional shared space once again.

🤝 Supporting Families Beyond the Hall

The initiative also extended to supporting 100 families across Kampung Sungai Kembong Hilir, Kampung Rinching Hilir, and Kampung Sungai Kembong Hulu. Each family received a Kotak Rezeki package with essential groceries worth RM100 offering a meaningful helping hand during tough times.

💬 Voices from the Ground

WCT leaders emphasised how meaningful progress begins at the community level.

Dato’ Lee Tuck Fook, Group Managing Director of WCT, shared:

“We believe that rebuilding shared spaces and empowering youth through education is where real progress starts.”

Datuk Ab Wahab Bin Khalil, a strong advocate of WCT’s CSR efforts, added:

“Residents now have a safe, conducive place to come together, learn, and grow.”

Even the Kampung Ketua Kampung, Jumat Omar, expressed heartfelt appreciation:

“This upgraded balai raya restores not just a building, but also our sense of unity.”

📚 A CSR Movement That’s More Than Charity

Launched in 2022, WCTGives champions three main pillars:

  • #WeCareTogether
  • #AGreenerTomorrow
  • #EducationForAll

Through these pillars, the Group continues balancing business goals with community-driven purpose — ensuring Malaysians get the spaces and opportunities they need to thrive.

The WCTGives Malaysia community initiative at Kampung Sungai Kembong Hilir is more than a hall makeover it’s a reset button for togetherness, learning, and long-term community growth. As WCT continues uplifting local communities across Malaysia, this Kajang activation stands as a reminder that nation-building truly starts with people.
